Dutch Government's Collapse Is Bad For Netherlands' Credit: Moody's

NEW YORK (Dow Jones) - The Netherlands' sovereign rating might suffer the collapse of the government of the country this weekend, Moody's Investors Service warned Monday in the latest development to the European monetary union taken as the region struggles with his two-year long government debt crisis.
"This development is clearly negative for the credit given that the Dutch sovereign both political and policy uncertainty generates," Sarah Carlson, a London-based vice president of ratings company, wrote in a research note.
The note from Moody's explanation, no formal action reviews. The ratings company has reviewed its highest ranking Dutch government bonds, triple-A, with stable outlook. Within the eurozone, only Denmark, Finland and Luxembourg also have a high rating from Moody's. Austria, France and the United Kingdom all have triple-A ratings, but with a negative outlook.
Netherlands has sound banks and "modest" losses from mortgages, but if the government would ever have to save the banks, and other European countries have done during the crisis, "This would put downward pressure on the rating of the sovereign," Carlson wrote.
The Dutch government coalition disbanded on Saturday over measures totaling EUR 14 billion austerity package, but talks about cutbacks are set to continue.
The Dutch economy is considered one of the eurozone's strongest, but the Netherlands GDP is expected to shrink 0.6% this year, the fiscal position of the country hit, according to the note of Moody's. The economy should grow 1.3% in 2013 and more thereafter, Carlson wrote.
Because in the Netherlands is considered one of the countries most adheres to the budgetary rules of the eurozone, there could be problems of the Union's credibility hit, she warned.
"Despite very robust institutional framework of the country and a significant track record of fiscal discipline, this uncertainty about the future development of the country's policy generates," Carlson wrote.
